The Problem

Following the acquisition of Gamepedia and Curse by Amazon-owned subsidiary Twitch, it became clear that focused business development efforts were needed to support growth in emerging gaming and media segments. Gamepedia had built its network by championing indie games, serving a niche that was often overlooked by larger competitor platforms, but the gaming industry was ramping up investment in cutting-edge content areas like vTubers and virtual reality, opening new areas of business. It became increasingly important to create a new business development strategy focused on these innovations to ensure continued brand growth within the broader Amazon ecosystem.

The Solution

Through the use of tools such as Google Analytics (GA4), Airtable, Google Sheets, a database solution was created to collect and collate data from across the internet. This data was then integrated into a data lake and processed via proprietary Python systems to isolate potential emerging genres, properties, and topics that were underserved by existing resources.

Impact

The business development database was deployed across all Gamepedia and Twitch-connected functions, resulting in substantial user and revenue growth.

Total users reached nine figures, and overall revenue surged YoY by more than eight figures. Additional experiential opportunities were surfaced, leading to an industry-first branded virtual event driving monthly cyclical revenue in excess of $1M USD.
